The Katahdin girls withstood a second half comeback from the defending regional champion Shead Tigers on their way to a quarterfinal win in Bangor Monday.

Senior Natalie Rickards scored 18 points for the No. 5 Cougars in the 23-21 win.

No. 4 Shead started out slowly, scoring only two points in the first half. Despite that, Shead had a chance to tie the score late in the game, but a key steal from junior guard Hannah Kyllonen helped seal the win for Katahdin (9-10).

For Shead (8-11), Cassidy Wilder had 11 points.

Katahdin moves on to the semifinals against the winner of Jonesport-Beals and Southern Aroostook.
