Former UMaine pitcher Cody Laweryson made his professional debut Sunday afternoon for the Minnesota Twins minor league affiliate, the Elizabethton Twins of the Appalachian League.

Laweryson started and pitched the first two innings as the Twins beat Kingsport (NY Mets Affiliate) 12-4.

The former standout from  Valley HS in Bingham threw two scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk. He struck out three. 23 of his 34 pitches were strikes.

Laweryson was drafted by Minnesota in the 14th round of the draft earlier this month. He decided to forego his senior year and turn pro.

The Elizabethton team is now 3-3.
