The UMaine women's basketball team came up short in its bid to knock off North Carolina State in the the first round of the NCAA Tournament, losing 63-51 Saturday afternoon.

The Black Bears were riding a 14-game win streak and swapped leads with the Wolfpack early in the game.


The Wolfpack took a 39-22 lead into halftime.

Maine actually outscored NC State by five in the second half but could never get the deficit down to single digits.

Parise Rossignol finishes her career leading the Bears with 19 points. Dor Saar had 16. But, the Wolfpack shut down Maine's prolific scorers, Blanca Millan had just four points and Tanesha Sutton had just three.

The Black Bears shot just 34% (20-for-59) while the Wolfpack shot 46%. MC State also outscored Maine 32-6.

Maine finishes the year at 25-8.

NC State is now 27-5 and will play Kentucky in the next round of the NCAAs.
