The Detroit Lions have released linebacker Trevor Bates, the former UMaine and Westbrook HS player.

Bates pleaded not guilty last week to five charges stemming from an incident in New York in late January. He allegedly assaulted a New York City police officer. Bates is out on bail and is due back in court on June 3rd.

After a stellar career at Maine, Bates was drafted in the 7th round by the Colts in 2016. He was released and picked up by the Patriots. Bates was a member of the Pats practice squad and earned a Super Bowl ring.

He had signed with the Lions in the spring of last year.
