UMaine's Hernen Sardinas had three hits and three RBI while Nick Silva pitched eight shutout innings to lead the Black Bears to a conference opener 8-0 win over Binghamton.

After playing the second toughest non-conference schedule in the nation, the Bears grabbed any early lead on the Bearcats.

Sardinas added a solo homer in the 6th inning. He then got an RBI in the 7th inning by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

In the 9th, he drilled a RBI double.

First baseman Joe Bramanti also had a three hit day as the Bears totaled 12 hits.

Meanwhile, Silva was in command on the hill. Eight innings, allowing six hits, three walks and he struck out 2.

Maine gets its second win of the year, now 2-17. Binghamton is 7-9.

GAME 2: Binghamton pitching held the Black Bears to just four hits in this one and beat the Black Bears 4-1. Cody Laweryson and Peter Kemble shared pitching duties in this one. Two of the four Bearcats runs were unearned.
