Voting is underway to decide the McDonald’s High School Athlete of the Week. Three of this week's nominees competed in the Penobscot Valley Conference-Eastern Maine Indoor Track League Championships, while the final athlete competed in the PVC swimming and diving championships.

This week's nominees are:

Ben Cotton of John Bapst was named Co-Outstanding Performer at the PVC-EMITL Championships Saturday at the University of Maine. Cotton topped the field in the 55 meters (6.65), the 400 (53.04) and the long jump (21-6 1/2).

Zach Beaton of Hermon shared Outstanding Performer honors with Cotton at the PVC-EMITL Championships after winning the 55 hurdles (8.0 seconds), the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches) and the triple jump (42-2).

Ava Sealander, a senior at George Stevens Academy, was named Performer of the Meet at Saturday's PVC swimming and diving championship at the Stanley Wallace Pool at the University of Maine in Orono. She won the 100 breaststroke by nearly six seconds with a time of 1:09.4. Sealander also won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:25.8.

Helen Shearer of Hampden Academy was named the girls Outstanding Performer the PVC-EMITL Championships this weekend at UMaine's New Balance Field House. Shearer won the mile in 5 minutes, 30.34 seconds and the two-mile with a time of 11:46.70. She also placed third in the 800 meters.
