Austin Theriault's debut in the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series came to an early end because of mechanical issues and leaving him with a 35th place finish.

After starting the race in the #36 spot, Theriault climbed to as high as #30 at one point in the Foxwoods Resort 301 race.

But he completed just 185 laps because of a rear gear issue.

The #52 car belongs to the Rick Ware Racing Team. A second rookie driver with the team, Andy Seuss, finished the race in 28th place, nine laps down.

Kevin Harvick held off Denny Hamlin in the final lap to win the race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon.
