Top-seed MDI Claims North Title With Win Over Waterville [GIRLS]

MDI Trojans vs. Waterville Purple Panthers

The top-seed MDI Trojans advanced to the state final after a win over previously unbeaten Waterville Saturday afternoon in Bangor.

MDI controlled the game from start-to-finish as Waterville was unable to come any closer than eight points in the final quarter. When the buzzer sounded, MDI came away with the 44-35 win.

Senior captain Julia Watras led the Trojans (19-2) with 17 points. Maddie Candage and Hannah Chamberlain each had nine points. Alexis Clarito added eight points. With her three three-pointers Saturday, Chamberlain set a Class B tournament record with 11 three-pointers in the tournament.

Kali Thompson led Waterville (20-1) with 12 points.

It was the first meeting this season.

MDI will play in the Class B state final at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 2 at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
