Last year, the Southern Aroostook was the youngest team in the tournament. This year, they have one more year of experience, and on Monday night the Warriors played like a veteran squad.

After a strong start from the No. 9 Katahdin Cougars, Southern Aroostook (18-1) settled down midway through the second quarter and pulled away in the second half to a 47-31 quarterfinal  win.

On the Warriors' 12-person roster, there are four eighth graders, four freshmen and four sophomores. As their roster is balanced, so was their scoring on Monday.

Kylie Vining led teh Warriors with 13 points. Kassidy Mathers and Katelyn Slauenwhite each had 8 points and Sydney Brewer had 7 points.

Natalie Rickards led the Cougars with 8 points. Georgia Landry had 7 points before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.

Southern Aroostook will play Easton in the semifinals.

Katahdin finishes the season at 7-13.
