The UMaine women's basketball team got the job done on opening day, beating Toledo 73-59 at the Cross Center. Four Black Bears scored in double figures.

Blanca Millan led with 18. Parise Rossignol and Dor Saar each had 15. Fanny Wadling added 11.

That group of four shot 50% from the field.

The Bears led by as many as 27 points before the Rockets made a late push to make the final score respectable.

Meanwhile, the UMaine men's long west coast road trip ended in San Francisco Saturday night. A 90-53 loss to the Dons of the University of San Francisco.

The Black Bears were not so competitive in this third game in five days, after being competitive with UDenver and Utah.

Charles Minland scored 22 to lead USF.

Andrew Fleming and Sergio El Darwich had 14 each for Maine.

The 0-3 Bears go to the ACC and play North Carolina State next Saturday.
