The University of Maine Women's Basketball Team opened the America East playoffs with a 63-49 win over Hartford on Saturday afternoon March 5th at The Pit on the campus of the University of Maine.

Maine led 15-12 at the end of the 1st Quarter and 29-26 at the end of the 1st Half. The Black Bears led 49-43 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.

Maine had 3 players in double-figures. Caroline Bornemann led the way with 21 points. Anne Simon had a double-double with 17 points and ripped down 12 rebounds. Maeve Carroll had 14 points.

The Black Bears shot an impressive 42.1 percent from the field and were 4-21 from beyond the 3-point arc. They were 11-13 from the free throw line.

Hartford was led by Carmen Villalobos with 13 points while Paula Maurina had 10 points. The Hawks shot 38.3 percent from the field, and were 6-14 from beyond the 3-pint arc and were 7-8 from the free throw line.

UMaine is now 19-10 overall and 15-3 in America East. They will play NJIT in the America East Semifinals on Tuesday, March 8th. The game tips-off at 7 p.m. and will be played at The Pit in the Memorial Gymnasium. Hartford's season comes to an end with a 4-26 overall record and 4-14 in America East.
