VOTE: Athlete Of The Week Nominees Unveiled
Five area student-athletes have been nominated for the First National Bank High School Athlete of the Week award.
This week's nominees include Gabe Coffey of Bangor, Wyatt Gogan of Hermon, Nora Buck of Lawrence, Madisyn Hartley of MCI and Nick Wildhaber of Waterville.
Here's how each athlete performed
Gabe Coffey of Bangor High School finished first at the 17th Maine Cross Country Festival of Champions on Saturday at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast. Coffey finished with a time of 15:54.51, more than seven seconds better than the second-place finisher, John Auer of Falmouth.
Wyatt Gogan of Hermon scored three touchdowns in the Hawks 49-14 win over MDI on Friday. Gogan caught two touchdown passes from Garrett Trask, including a 43-yard score with 2:55 left in the first quarter. Gogan also returned a kickoff for a 78-yard score with 9:15 remaining in the second quarter.
Madisyn Hartley of the MCI field hockey team scored the lone goal in the Huskies' 1-0 win over the previously unbeaten Gardiner Tigers on Saturday. MCI improved to 8-3, while Gardiner fell to 10-1. Hartley, considered one of the top players in Class B, added two assists in MCI's 4-0 triumph against Leavitt on Sept. 25.
Nick Wildhaber of Waterville rushed for three touchdowns in the Purple Panthers 34-6 win over Medomak Valley at Drummond Field on Friday night. Wildhaber gained 130 yards on the ground. With the win, Waterville snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 2-3.
Nora Buck of the Lawrence field hockey team scored four goals in the Bulldogs' 5-0 win against Waterville on Saturday. She scored two goals to help lead the Bulldogs to a 6-2 triumph against Morse on Sept. 24 in Bath.
