[VOTE] Six Nominated For HS Athlete Of The Week
Six area student-athletes have been nominated for the First National Bank High School Athlete of the Week award.
This week's nominees are Wyatt Harvey of Houlton, Percy Zentz of George Stevens Academy, Kristina Kelly of Camden Hills, Hunter Washburn of Skowhegan, Drew Hayward of Woodland and Jack Thompson of Waterville.
Here's how each athlete performed last week
Wyatt Harvey of the Houlton golf team helped lead the Shiretowners to a Class C state title at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro on Saturday. Harvey shot a team-best 81 for the Shiretowners, who won their fifth state championship and first since 2009.
Percy Zentz of the George Stevens Academy golf team shot a 76 at Natanis on Saturday. He won individual medalist honors in Class C. The GSA team finished eighth with a score of 388.
Kristina Kelly of the Camden Hills girls soccer team scored three goals in the Windjammers win against Bangor on Oct. 4. She fell just one goal shy of reaching the 100-goal mark for her career. Camden Hills picked up a 7-1 victory over rival Bangor. The two teams have met in the Class A North championship game in each of the last three seasons.
Hunter Washburn of the Skowhegan football team scored three touchdowns in the Indians' 36-24 victory against Brewer on Friday night at Doyle Field. Hunter scored from 15 yards out on a shovel pass and added six and two-yard rushing touchdowns. Washburn finished the night with 111 rushing yards on 29 carries.
Drew Hayward of the Woodland soccer team scored three goals in the Dragons' 6-1 triumph over Calais on Oct. 2. The win improved Woodland to 9-1. Against Shead on Sept. 27, Hayward became just the sixth boys soccer player in state history to score 100 career goals.
Jack Thompson of the Waterville football team rushed for 101 yards and two scores in the Purple Panthers' 49-26 win over Messalonskee on Saturday. The senior quarterback added a passing touchdown to Trafton Gilbert in the final minute of the first half. The win improved Waterville to 3-3.
