UPDATE: Maine golfer Shawn Warren shot a 7-over par 77 in the first round of the PGA Championship. He will need to shoot a low score Friday in order to make the cut for weekend play.

Falmouth Country Club assistant pro Shawn Warren will compete with the best golfers in the world as the final major of the year, the PGA Championship begins in St. Louis today.

A little after 10am, Warren will tee it up with a group that includes American J.J. Spaun and Mikko Korhonen from Finland.

Warren is just the third Maine pro to qualify for the PGA Championship (John Hickson, Tim Angis). He earned his spot by beating out 300 other teaching pros at a qualifying tournament in California earlier in the summer.

Warren has won a lot of tournaments around New England but today is his PGA Tour debut. And, it's a major.

All the golf's big names are there - Tiger, Rory, Phil, Bubba, DJ and the defending PGA champ, Justin Thomas.
