The No. 6 Washburn Beavers withheld a late charge from the No. 3 Central Aroostook Panthers to earn a quarterfinal victory Monday morning at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Washburn (11-8) built a double-digit lead in the third quarter, hit some key free throws late in the game and held on for 54-47 win over Central Aroostook to earn a spot in the Class D North semifinals.

Kassandra Farley led the Beavers with 22 points, including 9-10 from the line in the final minutes. From there, it was a balanced scoring attack for Washburn. Maggie Castonguay had nine points. Skylar Mette, Kiristen Sarmiento and Alexis Carney each added 8 points.

"We played like a team today," Farley said after the game.

For the Panthers (15-4), Ashlee Harris scored 14 points before fouling out with less than a minute to go in the game. Kaite Levesque had 11 pints.

The victory was payback for the Beavers who lost to the Panthers twice during the regular season.
