Week five of the fall high school sports season gave us some great performances in football, golf and cross country. Check out the nominations and then vote for who you think should be Athlete of the Week.

Hermon HS Golfer Nate Allain:  At the Penobscot Valley Conference championships he claimed medalist title by firing at 79 and leading the Hawks to the team title. Allain was named PVC B Player of the Year. Allain shot an 80 (T-10th) at the State Team Championships on Saturday. Hermon finished in 6th place. He will also play in this week's Individual Golf Championship tourney.

MDI HS Golfer Gabbie James:  After firing a 90 and leading her team to a spot in the state team tournament, James was medalist and PVC B Player of the Year. She shot a 97 at the state tourney and has qualified to play in the Individual Golf Championship this Saturday.

Bucksport HS OL/DL David Gross:  The senior lineman is a big part of the Golden Bucks dominating 5-0 start to the season, including a 28-0 shutout over Hermon last Friday night. The Bucks have not allowed a point in three consecutive games. Gross had eight tackles vs Hermon, including two QB sacks.

Falmouth HS XC Sophie Matson:  The junior cross country runner not only won the Festival of Champions meet in Belfast, she did it in record time, 17:31.95. For Matson, it is her third straight win at the event that includes runners from all over the region.
