A day after he was released by the New England Patriots on cutdown day, former Westbrook HS and UMaine Black Bears LB Trevor Bates has been signed to the Patriots ten-man practice squad.

Bates joined the Patriots practice squad last season after being drafted and then released by the Indianapolis Colts. He earned a Super Bowl ring when the Pats beat the Atlanta Falcons.

Bates saw a lot of action in the four preseason games. His 15 tackles was third best on the team.

Bates will earn a minimum of $6,900 per week as a practice squad player and can be signed by any NFL team that wants to put him on their 53-man roster.
