Chase Pearson scored UMaine's first goal just 18 seconds into the game. Then he scored UMaine's last goal and that turned out to be the game winner.

The Black Bears beat UMass 3-2 Saturday to work a weekend sweep of the Minutemen and collect four big points in the Hockey East standings.

That second Pearson goal came midway through the second period and pushed the Bears ahead 3-1.

It was needed because UMass got a powerplay goal in the third period to make it close.

Freshman goalie Jeremy Swayman made 28 saves.

The Bears improve to 8-6-3 in Hockey East and 14-9-4 overall with last place Merrimack coming to Alfond Arena next weekend.
