Another former UMaine goalie is part of a NHL trade and the impending free agency market. Ben Bishop has been traded from the LA Kings to the Dallas Stars for a 4th round draft pick.

Now Dallas has until July 1st to sign Bishop or he becomes a free agent.

Earlier this week, the same thing happened to former Black Bear Scott Darling. He was traded from Chicago to Carolina and reached a 4-year, $16M deal and passed on free agency.

A deal between Bishop and the Stars could take some time. The team already has two goalies they are paying over $10-million-dollars. They likely need to trade or buyout one of them before signing Bishop.

Bishop is 30-years-old and is a two-time Vezina Trophy finalist. In eight NHL seasons, he is 148-80-25 with a 2.32 GAA.

He played his college hockey at UMaine from 2005 to 2008.
