Can the MCI Huskies win state championships in back-to-back years in two different classes? Can the Capers of Cape Elizabeth win their first ever state title?

Welcome to Maine's high school football state championship weekend. The Class C title tilt tonight at Alfond Stadium at UMaine in Orono. Three more championship games tomorrow at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.

Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket / 929theticket.com kicks off coverage at 7pm with the MCI vs Cape Elizabeth game.

North Region Champs - (7-4) MCI Huskies: What a year it has been for coach Tom Bertrand and his Huskies from Pittsfield. A last second touchdown off a bobbled field goal snap sent MCI to the Class D title over Lisbon a year ago. Then the move up to Class C. Then a bunch of early season injuries. And then the playoff run.

The Huskies have a trio of running threats - Adam Bertrand, Pedros Matos and Seth Bussell. They have a freshman quarterback, Ryan Friend, who led Class C North in passing with 846 yards.

South Region Champs - (9-2) Cape Elizabeth Capers: Coach Aaron Filieo has been coach of Cape since 2003 and picked up his 100th career win in the semi-final round beating Fryeburg. Last week CE beat Gardiner for the regional title by forcing five second half turnovers and tamed the Tigers with stingy defense. QB Andrew Hartel threw two TD passes and Ryan Weare rushed for three TDs and 169 yards.
