UMaine third baseman Alyssa Derrick cracked a two-run home run in the 5th inning to break a 3-3 tie and the Black Bears went on to beat UMBC 5-3 at the America East Conference Softball Tournament.
The victory keeps the Black Bears alive in the tourney. The Bears lost 3-1 to Binghamton earlier in the day.
In the loser's bracket game, Derrick had the big hit while Annie Kennedy pitched the final five innings to get the win.
The Bears play Thursday afternoon at 4pm. The opponent to be determined.
