Eagles Season Ends With 11th Inning Regional Loss
The Husson University softball team's season ended in the 11th inning of a game that took two days to play. Western New England edged the Eagles 6-5 Sunday morning at the NCAA Regional Tournament in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
The game was suspended because of darkness Saturday evening with the scored tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 6th inning.
Play resumed Sunday morning at 10:30am. The Eagles and Golden Bears could not score a run until the 11th inning.
That's when WNE pushed across two runs in the top of the 11th to grab a 6-4 lead.
Husson responded in the bottom of the 11th. With two runners on base, Kylie Cunningham drilled a double to the gap. Caitlin Bean scored to make it 6-5 but Madelyn Fowler was gunned down at the plate.
WNE held on for the 6-5 win. The (25-17) Golden Bears advance to face Amherst in the next round of the tourney. Williams College awaits the winner for the regional championship.
Husson's season ends with a 21-15 record.
