It’s time for you to help us decide again who should be the winner of this week’s McDonald’s High School Athlete of the Week.  We have our third vote of the winter sports season, and you can choose between five different athletes.

Presque Isle’s Griffin Guerrette had a great holiday week for the Wildcats as his team went 2-1 and currently sit in the top spot in the Class B North.  Guerrette had 25 points in a win versus Ellsworth and also tallied 24 in a win against MDI to hand the Trojans their first loss of the season.  In a 60-56 losing effort to Hermon on Saturday, he also dropped 24 points in the contest.  The Wildcats enter the week with a record of 4-2 overall.

Senior Christie Woodside had a great meet for the Hampden Academy Broncos in the New Balance Field House at UMaine over the weekend.  Woodside won three events including the 55 meter hurdles (9.27), the 200 meter dash (28.96), and the long jump (16-02.75).  The Broncos came in second place in the meet behind just Brewer High School.

Sophomore Isaac Varney had a standout performance the Hermon Hawks in a win against Presque Isle this weekend.  He led the way for the Hawks with 20 points in a narrow four point win over the top seeded Wildcats.  Varney also chipped in with nine points against the Old Town Coyotes in another Hermon win.  The Hawks are currently the lone unbeaten team in Class B Boy’s North.

Sydney Allen of Central High School continued to impress for the undefeated Red Devils.  Allen helped Central to two wins with 21 point game versus Searsport and 27 in a big victory versus Penquis.  After the big week for Allen and the Red Devils, Central now holds a 7-0 record in Class C North.

Crystal Bell achieved a personal milestone over the past week and helped her Crusaders to two wins.  She had 15 points in a road win against Washington Academy and then followed that up with 21 points in a Friday night home victory against MCI.  In that win, Bell notched her 1,000th for her high school career.  John Bapst is currently 5-0 on the year.
