The Providence College Friars blanked the UMaine Black Bears 3-0 in the first round of the Friendship Four Tournament in Belfast, Ireland.

Maine will now play RPI Saturday morning at 10AM(ET) in the third place game. Clarkson beat RPI 2-0 in the other first round game.

The Black Bears are Friars played scoreless hockey until a Providence goal late in the second period. The Friars added a powerplay goal and an empty netter to finish the deal.

Maine's freshman goalie Jeremy Swayman made 34 saves. Providence goalie Hayden Hawkey made 24.

The game does count in the Hockey East standings, so Maine falls to 3-4 (4-7 overall). The Friars are 5-3-1 (8-4-1 overall).
