The Providence College Friars scored three times in the first period, on their way to a Saturday night 3-2 over the UMaine Black Bears and a sweep of the Hockey East playoff series.

While the (22-10-4) Friars move on to the HE semi-final round, the Black Bears season ends with an 18-16-4 record.

After getting behind 3-0 after the first period, the Bears struck for two goals in the first two minutes of the second period. Eduards Tralmaks and Nolan Vesey scored the goals.

But the goalies took over for the rest of the night.

Freshman Jeremy Swayman made 38 saves while Hayden Hawkey made 15 for the Friars.
