The Hampden boys basketball team picked up were it left off a year ago with a convincing 86-40 win over Brewer at the Cross Insurance Center on opening night.The defending state champion Broncos got 24 points from senior Zach Gilpin while sophomore Brendan McIntyre added 15. Isaiah Bess who transferred to Hampden this season will go down in history as the only player to play in the final game at the Bangor Auditorium where he helped Penquis win the Class C state Championship and play in the first countable high school game at the new Cross Center.

Jared St. Thomas led the Witches in the losing cause with 11 points, Carter Smith added 10.

The Hampden girls completed the sweep of Brewer with a 45-34 win. Junior guard Erin Murphy had a team high 14 points before leaving the game late in the 4th quarter with an ankle injury.
