The Hermon Hawks capped their perfect season with a state championship, running away from the Wells Warriors Friday night for the first gold ball for boys basketball in school history.

The Hawks, who finish the season at 22-0, defeated Wells 55-34 in the state Class B finals at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Senior Jacob Godfrey had a monster game, scoring 21 points and dominating the paint.

Cody Hawes had 11 points and Isaac Varney had 10 points for Hermon.

Hermon had little trouble with the south champion Wells, who, under intense pressure from the Hawks' defense, struggled offensively throughout the night.

Matt Sherburne led the Warriors with 13 points. Cam Cousins and Tyler Bridge each added 10 points.
