Softball players from Penobscot Valley High School and Mattanawcook Academy, along with a baseball player from Searsport, have been nominated for McDonald's High School Athlete of the Week honors.

Here are this week's McDonald's High School Athlete of the Week nominees.

Leine McKechnie, a softball pitcher at Penobscot Valley High School, threw a no-hitter against Searsport. She struck out 12 and helped her own cause with a two-run home run. McKechnie pitched a complete-game six-hitter, struck out 9 and hit another homer against Stearns.

Her sister, Kortney McKechnie, had a noteworthy week as well. Kortney McKechnie homered and racked up 5 RBIs angainst Lee Academy.

Haley McLaughlin of Mattanawcook Academy threw a no-hitter as the Lynx defeated Houlton 3-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on May 1. She collected three hits to help Mattanawcook complete the doubleheader sweep with a 3-1 triumph in game 2.

Charlie Spiegel of Searsport singled, doubled, knocked in three runs and scored twice as the Vikings defeated Sumner 15-5 on May 2. Spiegel and Ben Powell combined to strike out 12 in Searsport's win over Penobscot Valley on April 30. He also knocked in a run in the 5-4 win.
