You May Soon Be Able to Buy & Smoke Weed at Maine Fairs, Concerts & Festivals

It has certainly become more prevalent, not just in Maine, but across the United States of America. Of course we are talking about adult-use recreational cannabis. You know... the pot.

And now, thanks to a new proposal by the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy, Mainers may soon be able to legally purchase and use marijuana at different events all around the state.

According to an article from WGME 13, the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy has proposed some new rules regarding the sales and usage of recreational marijuana. The MOCP said in part that they want to increase access to marijuana while also attempting to eliminate the stigma that they say surrounds it.

The new rules would aim to allow smokeable marijuana to be sold around the state at concerts, fairs and festivals. As one might imagine, there is already a wide array of different opinions and viewpoints on the proposed measures.

However, people will have the opportunity to express their support or concern at a public hearing on the new proposal sometime next week. Obviously there are several things that would need to be worked out such as what would happen if the concert, fair or festival was taking place at a non-smoking venue? Would the new rules override a no smoking ordinance?

This is just an example of one of many questions that would need to be answered before such rule changes could go into effect. WGME is reporting that Maine's recreational marijuana sales hit a whopping $160 million last year and is on track to surge past that figure by the end of 2023.
