Mattanawcook Advances With Win Over Dexter [BOYS]

The Mattanawcook Academy Lynx advanced to the semifinal round on Tuesday afternoon with a win over the Dexter Tigers.

When the buzzer sounded, the No. 2 Lynx came away with a 47-37 win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. They will play the defending state champion No.3 George Stevens Academy Eagles in the Class C North semifinals on Friday.

No. 7 Dexter took a 1-0 lead at the outset, but that was the last time the Tigers held the lead as Mattanacook (16-3) held a double-digit led for most of the contest. >>FULL STORY>>

Defending Champions George Stevens Eliminate Calais [BOYS]

The defending state champion George Stevens Academy Eagles started their quarterfinal game with 11-0 run and didn't look back, eliminating the Calais Blue Devils in a Class C North quarterfinal contest in Bangor.

When the buzzer sounded, the No. 3 Eagles came away with a 73-37 win over the No. 11-seed Blue Devils.

Sophomore Andrew Szwez led the Eagles (16-3) with 21 points. Isac Wardwell had 18 points. Senior Reece Dannenberg added 11 points, and Percy Zentz finished with eight points.>>FULL STORY>>

PVHS Holds Off Late Charge From Narraguagus [GIRLS]

The Penobscot Valley Howlers held off a late charge from the Narraguagus Knights in a 45-42 Class C North quarterfinal win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor Tuesday afternoon.

PVHS standout Lexi Irleand fouled out midway through the fourth quarter with 16 points. With Ireland out, the Knights were able to chip away at a double-digit lead to cut the margin to five points in the final minutes.

Emily St. Cyr and Lanie Harding each scored 10 points for the Howlers.

Top-seed Bangor Overpowers Portland To Advance [BOYS]

The top-seed Bangor Rams punched their ticket to the regional final with a convincing semifinal win over the Portland Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon

The Rams started fast, powering out to a 13-2 advantage at the end of one quarter. Bangor led by as many as 23 points in the contest at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.

When the buzzer sounded, the Rams came away with a 61-41 win in the Class AA North semifinal.

Matt Fleming led the Rams with 21 points. Damien Vance had 18 points. Henry Westrich had nine points. Isaac Cummings had eight points.

Bangor will take on No. 2 Edward Little in the regional final at 6:30 p.m. on Fri., Feb. 22 at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.

Houlton Advances With Convincing Win Over PVHS [BOYS]

The Houlton Shiretowners advanced to the semifinals Tuesday night after eliminating the Penobscot Valley Howlers in a quarterfinal match-up at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

No. 4 Houlton (15-4) led from start to finish, dominating the pace and the boards on their way to a convincing 72-32 win over the No. 5 Howlers.

Senior Nolan Porter led the Shiretowners with 22 points. Nick Brewer had 16 points. Keegan Gentle finished the game with 14 points.

Houlton next will play a Class C North semifinal game at 3:35 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
