The eight remaining Eastern Maine Class D teams met at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on Thursday to see who would advance to the boys and girls finals on Saturday.

When the final buzzer sounded, it would be an all Aroostook County event with the Washburn Beavers and the Fort Fairfield Tigers facing off in both the boys and girls finals.

The top-seed Washburn Beavers held off a tough Machias team Thursday night, pulling away in the fourth quarter for an 80-64 win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Washburn will play the Fort Fairfield Tigers Saturday in the Eastern Maine Class D finals.
Machias cut the lead to single digits in the third quarter, but the Beavers were solid from the line late in the game, going 14 of 16 in the fourth quarter and 28 for 31 for the game.

Noah Caron finished with 24 points for Washburn, going 9-10 from the free throw line late in the game. Caron was named player of the game.

Noah Farley turned in 19 points, many of which came in the first half on the break after missed shots by Machias.

For Machias, standout senior Logan Wood finished his high school career with 30 points in the loss. Six-foot-four sophomore Jacob Godfrey added 13 points and seven blocks.

Fort Farifield Boys Run Over S. Aroostook To Earn Spot in EM Final

The third time was a charm for the Fort Fairfield Tigers who started out their semifinal with an 11-0 run against the higher-seeded Southern Aroostook team and never looked back.

The No. 3 Tigers had lost both regular season games to the No. 2 Warriors, but played near-perfect basketball Thursday night on their way to a 71-52 win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Fort Fairfield senior Robert Watson finished with 18 points, 12 of which came in the Tigers’ 25-point first quarter. Watson was named McDonald’s Player of the Game.
The Tigers extended that first quarter advantage, leading by 13 at the half and 25 points heading into the final quarter.

Sophomore Christopher Giberson and senior Caleb Daigle each scored 15 points for the Tigers in the win.

For the Warriors, who end the season with a 19-2 record, Cameron Landry scored 15 points. Jackson Mathers added 13 points and sophomore center Nolan Altvater was held to 8 points.

Washburn Rolls Over Machias To Advance in Tourney

Washburn started off fast and didn’t let up on their way to a 70-28 semifinal win over the Machias Bulldogs Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the Beavers -- The No. 1 seed in Eastern Maine -- take another step in their pursuit of a record fifth state title.

Senior Mackenzie Worcester led the Beavers with 23 points. Junior guard Emelia Churchill had 16 points and Joan Overman added 10.

Tate Dolley, a junior, led the No. 7 Bulldogs with 13 points.

Washburn forced 23 turnovers in the game. The Beavers improve to 20-0 on the season.

Fort Fairfield Defeats Van Buren To Advance To EM Finals

The Fort Fairfield girls advanced to the Eastern Maine finals after defeating Van Buren Thursday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The No. 3 Tigers from Fort Fairfield lost the lead only once in the first quarter and pulled away to a 45-29 win over the No.7 Bulldogs.

Fort Farifield is 19-2 after the win. Those two losses coming at the hands of the No. 1 Washburn Beavers, whom they will play in the Eastern Maine finals on Saturday.

Megan Jellison led the Tigers with 19 points. Chelsey Pelkey added 10 points in the win. Jellison and Pelkey were named McDonald's co-players of the game.

For Van Buren, senior Felisha Bouchard scored 11 points. Courtney Parent added 5 points before fouling out.
