Some of Maine's best high hockey players are now national champions of USA Hockey U-18. The title was won Monday in Lansing, Michigan when the Moose defeated the New Hampshire Avalanche 3-2.

The Maine Moose team is based out of Augusta with many of the top players around the state joining forces to win the state title and now the national championship in USA Hockey Tier II.

Bangor goalie Derek Fournier made 26 saves to earn the win.

Also on the team - Hampden's Marc Thibodeau, Old Town-Orono's Tyler Wheeler, Houlton's Josh Malone and Waterville's Andrew Roderigue, Matt Joliceour and Jackson Aldrich. Travis Roy Award winner Jeromey Rancourt from Lewiston had a goal and an assist in the championship game.

The Maine team beat teams from Missouri, Arizona and Alaska in pool play. The Moose beat Indiana in the semis to get to the championship game.

It is the first time a Maine U-18 has won the title.
