The Maine Women's Basketball Team fell to St. Joseph's College 63-62 at a raucous, noisy season opener on Friday, November 7th.

The game was tied 12-12 at the end of the 1st Quarter, and St. Joseph's led 24-20 at the end of the 1st Half. The Hawks led 46-3 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. St. Josephs led by as much as 12 points with 4:05 left to play as the Black Bears valiantly tried to cut the deficit. Asta Blaunefldt drained a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left to play to draw Maine within 1 point.

The game marked the return of Adrianna Smith who missed last year with a knee injury. She returned with a vengeance leading the teams with 25 points and 13 rebounds for her 40th double-double.

Maine shot 23-66 (34.8 %) from the field and were 8-26 (30.8%) from beyond the 3-point arc. They were 8-16 from the free throw line.

Asta Bluenfeldt finished with 16 points, and Sarah Talon had 10 points. Maine's Lizzy Gruber had 3 points with 3 rebounds, playing 12 minutes in her 1st game as a Black Bear. Bangor's Emmie Streams played 4 minutes. Maddie Fitzpatrick, who missed last year with an injury played 16 minutes.

Maine outrebounded St. Josephs 38-39.
