Maine’s John Arel Named Pitcher Of The Week After No-Hitter
University of Maine pitcher John Arel earned America East Pitcher of the Week honors for his no-hit performance against UMasss Lowell on Saturday.
Despite the dominant pitching performance, Arel took the loss after the River Hawks scored the game's only run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third.
He struck out 8 of the final 9 batters he faced, ending the game with a total of 12 strikeouts.
It was Maine's first no-hitter since George Goldman did it against Husson in 1987.
It's the fourth time the Black Bear have earned a Pitcher of the Week award this season.
Nick Silva has also earned the honor this season, while Justin Courtney has done it twice.
