Eastern Kentucky forward Nick Mayo has been named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year. The former Messalonskee HS standout won the weekly award nine times.

Mayo and the Colonels missed making the OVC tournament with a 6-10 record (15-16 overall) but his season long stats are impressive.

He was the top freshman scorer at 14.5 points per game and added five rebounds per game. Mayo shot a whopping 61% in field goals(18th in nation), 80% from the free throw line. He started all 31 games.

A year ago, Mayo was named Maine's Gatorade HS Player of the year and led his Messalonskee Eagles to the Class A semi-final round.
