Former UMaine Black Bear Gustav Nyquist is now part of trade deadline day in the NHL. The Detroit Red Wing has been traded to the San Jose Sharks for two draft picks.

The 29-year-old Nyquist is in the last year of a 4-year, $19-million-dollar deal. The Wings are rebuilding while the Sharks have the second best record in the Western Conference.

Nyquist has 16 goals and 33 assists in 62 games this year. He had to waive his no-trade clause to make the deal happen.

From 2008 to 2011, Nyquist played in 113 games at UMaine. He scored 50 goals and had 94 assists before turning pro after his junior year.

Turns out his last goal for the Red Wings came against the Sharks. Nyquist played against San Jose Sunday and hours later was acquired by them...

NOTE: Nyquist and the Sharks play in Boston vs the Bruins tomorrow night.
