The Portland Pirates AHL season in Lewiston begins with a shootout loss, 3-2 to the Manchester Monarchs. 2,102 was the attendance at the Colisee - the new home for the Pirates.

Tobias Rieder scored two goals for the Pirates and goalie Mark Visentin made 36 saves but the Monarchs outscored the Pirates in the shootout 2-1.

The Pirates are playing all of their home games in Lewiston after weeks of controversial talks with Cumberland County Civic Center officials over how to share concession revenue. The two sides could not come to an agreement and so the Pirates moved to the Lewiston site.

The Pirates play their next game at the Colisee Saturday night agains the Providence Bruins, the Boston Bruins AHL team.
