The final 18 spots in next month's Maine State Amateur Golf Tournament were earned today at Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono. Former Bangor HS golfer Drew Powell earned medalist honors.

Powell, who had a third place finish in the Maine Amateur in 2014, was the only golfer to shoot under par at PVCC, a 2-under par 70 was the top score.

Len Cole shot an even par 72.

48 players attempted to qualify and only the top 18 make the field.

The 98th Maine State Amateur Tourney is at Brunswick GC this year, starting July 11th. The 132 player field of the top amateurs around the state will compete for the championship. Matt Hutchins is the defending champion.
