The UMaine field hockey team walloped Northeastern 9-1 Friday afternoon and now the Black Bears have tied a school record for best start to a season with an 8-0 mark.

The record breaking 9th win could come Sunday afternoon on the UMaine campus when the Bears host #20 Harvard.

The record 8-0 start was set back in 1975 so the team is tryng to break a 43 year old record.

UMaine began the week ranked #18 in the national poll and went out and scored seven times in the second half vs the Huskies.

Senior Libby Riedl scored three goals and an assist to lead the Bears. Maine outshot Northeastern 23-6.

The Sunday home game vs Harvard is a 1pm start.
