A long day Friday for the UMaine softball team, dropping both ends of an America East Conference doubleheader to UAlbany at Kessock Field in Orono.

GAME ONE  UAlbany 2  UMaine 1:  A terrific pitching duel between UA'sCeleste Verdolivo and Maine's Emily Reid as both threw complete games.

The Great Danes scored one in the first inning and another in the fifth inning off Reid and that turned out to be enough. Reid allowed just three hits and four walks.

But the Black Bears could only muster a Maddie Decker solo homer on offense. They had only three hits.

GAME TWO  UAlbany 11  UMaine 7 (12 Inn):  This one took 12 innings to decide after the two teams were tied 4-4 after seven innings.

Both teams scored a run in the 8th inning and both teams scored two runs in the 9th inning.

In the 12th, the Great Danes scored four times to finally put it away.

Sarah Petzold led UAlbany with four hits and two RBI.

Hailey Perry had three hits for Maine. Kya Enos and Meaghan Royle had home runs for the Bears.

The two losses drop Maine to 2-9 in AE play and 10-25 overall.

Albany is 9-1 and 21-11.

NOTE: Because of the impending bad weather for Saturday the third game of the series has been cancelled.
