For the first time in over a decade, the Bowdoin College Polar Bears women's basketball team is the #1 team in the nation.

The first D3 Hoops.com weekly ranking of the season puts Bowdoin in the top spot with a 4-0 record. Amherst, the preseason #1 team, got upset by Eastern Connecticut over the weekend.

Bowdoin and Amherst, both NESCAC schools, played in the national championship game last year.

The last time the Polar Bears were ranked #1 was back in the 2006-07 season.

So far this year, Bowdoin is beating opponents by an average of 40+ points.

Among the Maine players on the team, former Bangor Rams center Cordelia Stewart is averaging 6 PPG. Former Presque Isle Wildcat Hannah Graham is scoring 9.5 PPG. South Portland's Maddie Hasson is averaging 16PPG and Greely's Moira Train is scoring 5 PPG.

NOTE: The St. Joseph's Monks have climbed to #12 in the national poll.
