Hermon Hawks vs. Caribou Vikings

The Caribou Vikings stopped the Hermon Hawks unbeaten streak at 42 games, claiming the regional title in thrilling fashion on Saturday.

The No. 2 Vikings ousted the defending state champions 43-40 in front of an estimated 5,000 fans at a rocking Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Caribou advances to the state title game against the south champion next Saturday.

Junior Parker Deprey led the Vikings with 19 points. Austin Findlen added 11 points.

For the top-seed Hawks, Cody Hawes had 14 points. Isaac Varney scored 11 points and Garrett Trash scored 10 points.

Caribou started strong and led 25-15 points at the half. Hermon came storming back to tie the game at 28 and Heromn took the lead briefly 31-30 in the fourth quarter on a Joel Bergeron three-pointer. But the Vikings reclaimed the lead on the next play with 6:05 left in the game with a Deprey three-pointer and would not relinquish the lead again.

It was the first regional title since 1983 for Caribou.

Caribou will play for the Class B state title against the Cape Elizabeth Capers at 2:45 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
