USM pitcher Jake Dexter and UMaine 1B Hernen Sardinas have been named to the New England Collegiate Baseball League all star team.

Dexter(Messalonskee HS) has been a relief specialist for the Sanford Mainers, appearing in 21 games and pitching 31.1 innings. He has a win, a save and the sixth best ERA in the NECBL at 2.30. Dexter will play for the North Division All Star team.

Black Bear first baseman Hernen Sardinas(Miami, FL) was selected for the South Division team. He plays for the Plymouth Pilgrims and is their leading hitter at .337. Sardinas has five home runs and 21 RBI.

The All Star Game is set for Sunday in North Adams, Massachusetts, home of the North Adams SteepleCats team.

Both Dexter and Sardinas are playing in the NECBL for the first time. The league is a wooden bat league for college players. There are nine teams throughout New England.

NOTE: UMaine RHP Justin Courtney(Bangor HS) pitched a 2-0 complete game shutout for the Sanford Mainers Sunday night. He gave up just four hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out six. The start is likely his final one of the summer for the Mainers. Courtney is 3-2 with a 3.13 ERA. In 37.1 innings, he has 23 strikeouts and eight walks...The Sanford team is coached by Chris Morris, former Husson Eagles assistant and a former Bangor HS assistant and Brewer Legion team coach.
