Baseball coaches in the North Atlantic Conference have picked the Husson Eagles as the team to beat this spring and for the Eagles the season starts on Saturday with their Florida trip.

Jason Harvey begins his 12th year as Husson coach. His team finished 9-13 in the NAC and 14-22 overall last year. The Eagles return 29 players, including veteran players like Nick Guerrette (Hermon), Jesse Colford (Bangor), Conor Maguire (Ellsworth) and Austin Smith (Mattanawcook).

The NAC and the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) have signed a two-year agreement to have each conference champion play a best-of-three series between each conference champion to determine who gets the NCAA Tournament automatic qualifier. Both conference are down to five schools offering baseball and the NCAA rules mandate at least seven schools in order to keep the AQ.

NOTE: Husson softball was also picked as the team to beat in the the preseason poll. The Eagles are defending NAC champions and Diann Ramsey takes over as head coach, replacing Terren Allen who left to become the Colby College softball coach.
