Eastern Maine Basketball Tournament Friday Roundup: Bangor Girls Advance
The Bangor High School girls played the Skowhegan Friday night in the first game of the Eastern Maine High School Class A Basketball Tournament at the Augusta Civic Center.
Although the Skowhegan girls got off to a good start tying it up in the first quarter the Lady Rams poured it on, dominating the score board for the rest of the game, particularly in the second half, to win the night 61-48.
Three of Bangor's players scored in double digits. Sophomores Cordelia Stewart and Mary Butler scored 17 and 15 points, respectively. Freshman Sarah Bragg earned McDonald's MVP honors with 15 points.
Bangor will face Mt. Ararat in the semi finals.
Nokomis Girls Defeat Belfast 49-39
Kelsie Richards was the leading scorer for Nokomis with 12 points including a 3 pointer. Nokomis went 17-22 from the free throw line. Lexi Nelligan was the leading scorer for Belfast with 20 points and the Lions went 11-15 from the line. Full story
7th Seeded Camden Upsets 2nd Oceanside 54-39
Jordan Knowlton lead the way for Camden with 21 points on the night. It was a tightly contested first two quarters with Camden holding a 16-13 lead, and 25-23 lead at the half. The second half played out differently with Camden taking a commanding 15 point to complete the upset over Oceanside.
MDI Edges Out Winslow 48-42
Jonathan Phelps carried the load for MDI with a game-high 16 points as they beat Winslow 48-42. Winslow was in control for the entire first half and most of the third quarter, until Phelps buried a three-point shot that gave MDI a one point lead. From that point on, they were in control of the game. It was close in the final stretch, but some missed shots by Winslow and made free throws by MDI put the game away. Full story
