It's past noontime and that means former UMaine hockey player Dustin Penner is an NHL free agent. The 31-year-old leftwinger finished the season with the Washington Caps after getting traded from Anaheim.

Penner played in a total of 67 games this past season, scoring 14 goals and 21 assists. His salary was $2-million-dollars.

After playing at the University of Maine from 2002-2004, Penner turned pro and now has nine NHL years under his belt. He has played for Edmonton and the LA Kings as well as the Ducks and Caps this year.

He is a two time Stanley Cup champion (2007 with Anaheim) (2012 with LA).
