Former UMaine coach, now Duke coach Joanne Palombo-McCallie is closing in on her 500th win and it could come this week.

Duke is 8-0 and ranked #2 in the nation. McCallie is sitting on 498 career wins counting her time at Maine, Michigan State and Duke. Her 21-year coaching recored is currently 498-183. that's a winning percentage of 73%.

Next on the schedule is Purdue (coached by another former UM coach Sharon Versyp) Thursday night and then a Sunday game at Oklahoma.

McCallie, who played her high school ball at Brunswick and college ball at Northwestern, came back to Maine in 1992 and became the youngest division one coach in the nation(27-years-old). She stayed eight years and a 167-83 record.

Former Tennessee coach Pat Summit is the all-time leader in women's basketball with over a thousand wins.
