Friars Score Late To Beat UMaine [VIDEO]
The Providence College Friars scored a powerplay goal with 1:53 left in the game to sneak past the UMaine Black Bears 3-2 Friday night.
The road woes continue to the Black Bears - no wins yet away from Alfond Arena this season.
Maine scored two goals in the first three minutes of the third period to grab a 2-1 lead. Patrick Holway and Chase Pearson got the goals.
But with 8:30 play in the game the Friars scored to tie the game 2-2 and then the powerplay goal after the Black Bears were called for a delay of game penalty.
Rob McGovern made 30 saves for UMaine. Hayden Hawkey made 27 for Providence.
Heading into game two of the weekend series Saturday night, the Bears are 4-10-1 in Hockey East and 10-14-3 overall.
The Friars have won six in a row and stand at 7-6-2 and 15-8-4.
