Lewiston's Isaiah Harris got his USA Track & Field Championship meet off to a great start last night, finishing with the top 800m time in the first round of competition in Des Moines, Iowa.

His time was 1:46.87 and easily puts him in the semi-final round tonight. The 800m final is Sunday evening.

The USATF Championship event serves as the selector to send athletes in the IAAF World Championships in Qatar in late September. That event is the final world competition before the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The 22-year-old Harris was a multi-sport standout at Lewiston High School and starred on the track at Penn State. He now runs as a pro for the Nike team.

NOTE: Former Bangor HS runner Riley Masters and North Yarmouth's Ben True will compete in Sunday's 5,000m event. There are 23 runners scheduled to run in the race...Former Lake Region HS standout Kate Hall, who turned pro a year ago, will compete in the long jump event late Saturday afternoon.
