
Hawks Football Ready To Make History
Hermon High School football will be making history tonight when the Hawks host the Oceanside Mariners at Pottle Field in the quarterfinal round of the Class C North playoffs.
The first postseason football game in school history.

First year head coach Kyle Gallant guided the Hawks to a 6-2 record and a #4 seed. Coach Wes Drinkwater and his Mariners are 5-3 and the #5 seed.
The two teams did not meet during the season but they do have three common opponents. Both the Hawks and Mariners lost to Winslow while both teams beat John Bapst and Belfast.
The teams are also similar in that they are run first teams. Oceanside averages 356 YPG on the ground whle Hermon averages 303 YPG. Both teams average less than 100 passing yards per game.
The Hawks one-two punch is RB Jordan Bishop (1,002 Rush Yards, 13 TDs)) and QB Garrett Trask (897 Rush Yards, 14 TDs).
The Mariners combo of RB Michael Norton Jr. and RB Ben Ripley are equally tough to stop. Norton is the top runner in the Big 11 Conference (1,309 Rush Yards, 18 TDs) and Ripley is also a bigtime runner (1,010 Rush Yards, 8 TDs).
The winner of tonight's game meets the winner of #1 MDI vs #8 John Bapst in the semi-final round next week.
